The Reverend Steve Cochrane & Sheila his wife

Steve and Sheila moved to Kenton in October 2011 and Steve was inducted as the Minister of Kenton Baptist Church on Saturday 5th November 2011.  Steve writes “I was brought up in a non-Christian home, and in 1989 after listening to the Gospel message by Dr. Billy Graham, I realised how much more there was to life, and a simple first step towards the relationship God had always wanted for me, was only a prayer away.  I responded positively to the call, and experienced an immediate desire to know him more by accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour.”

Steve spent nearly 20 years in secular employment before training for Christian ministry, first in the Methodist Church and then in the Baptist denomination.  He and Sheila have worked a lot with young people as well as congregations of all ages.  Both are gifted musically, singing and playing guitar.  They especially enjoy spending time with their children and grandchildren when they can.

Steve says “We have a strong desire to see the Church built up and our society transformed by the love of God.  Since becoming Christians our greatest desire has been to see other people find a living faith, freedom in Christ and a joy in discipleship."

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you will be greeted by someone from our Welcome Team.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits after the service (and sometimes even cake !). It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility

There is wheelchair access, and the church operates a ‘loop’ system for those with impaired hearing. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a disabled toilet in the main foyer.

Our Service

The Sunday service begins at 10:30am with a warm welcome from our Pastor followed by a call to worship. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our worship team. We typically start the service by singing a selection of contemporary worship songs. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church and then we have a time of prayer. Following on from this, we sing another two or three reflective songs. Our Pastor or a visiting preacher will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a final song. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my children?

We have a great programme lined up for children of all ages:

  • Creche (0 months to 3 years). Children under 6 months are welcome but must be accompanied by their parent/grown-up at all times.
  • New Beginnings (4-16 years)

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At the end of the notices someone will announce that it’s time for the children to go to Sunday School.

The children's group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play.

If you have any questions regarding our Church, then please contact us.

We hope that whoever you are, you will feel at home at our church.

God Bless You and see you very soon at Kenton Baptist Church
